Cloak Room
By Kate Carpenter
Located in plain site just inches off the Texas Capitol grounds, the Cloak Room is a lobbyist’s worst kept secret.
Its western dive bar identity is innately Texan, but its political nature is uniquely Austin. If you are lucky enough to grab a table, a peaceful date with a cheap drink awaits you.
On the other hand, if you sit at the bar, you’ll be nestled in between a State Representative and a true, rough and tough cowboy. If you ever forget you live in Texas, Cloak Room’s saloon style swinging doors remind you we are never too far from the Wild Wild West.
I invite you to see for yourself on January 12th, 2027, the opening day of the 90th Legislative Session. While theTexas political world can feel obscured by the tech bros and Teslas on Congress, Austin is still the state’s Capitol and you’re never too far from infamous Texas politics at The Cloak Room.
