The North Lamar thoroughfare is home to dozens of local establishments deserving a visit. But when racing through lights at 35 miles per hour, it’s hard to discern which bar, restaurant or taco truck deserves your dollars.

Pepe’s Tacos sits at the corner of Lamar and 9th in an ice cream parking lot. An unassuming spot known for its Birria focused menu, Pepe’s is stubbornly simple. Refusing to market, expand or insist upon itself; Pepe’s lets the menu tacos do the talking. Their kitchen delivers all you want in a Birria taco: a perfectly fried exterior, a gooey cheesy center and a side of consommé to wash it all down.
